Domestic Violence Attorney in Peoria

Effective Representation from Miller Law Offices

Cases of domestic violence and abuse are taken very seriously in the state of Illinois. If you or a loved one has been harmed by an individual within your place of residence or by an intimate partner, you must take action to protect yourself.

In the case that you are on the other side of the order, and it has been falsely made against you, my firm can protect your rights. False allegations are often made to gain possession of the family residence or to limit a parent's access to minor children. I can provide family law or criminal defense representation.

According to the Illinois Domestic Violence Act, common acts of domestic abuse include:

  • Intimidation
  • Harassment
  • Physical abuse
  • Stalking
  • Exploitation
  • Willful deprivation

It is a crime for anyone to display a pattern of physical, mental, or emotional abuse against a member of his or her household. If you are a victim of any type of domestic violence, you should immediately seek legal assistance from my firm.

Obtaining an Order of Protection

The law permits victims of domestic violence to obtain an order of protection, which is an order that forbids the alleged abuser from committing further abuse. When you retain me as your Peoria family law attorney, I can help you petition the court for a protective order that best suits your circumstances.

Orders of protection come in different forms, such as:

  • Emergency orders
  • Interim orders
  • Plenary orders

I encourage you to take immediate action to ensure that you are given the legal protection you deserve. Contact my firm at once to protect your rights and ensure your safety. When you call me, I can provide you with a free initial consultation about your case and your legal options.

Very Personable & Sympathetic Our case originally involved assault/battery, resisting arrest, and disorderly conduct. However, Mr. Miller was able to reduce the charges to a Class C misdemeanor disorderly conduct charge with court supervision for 6 months (in other words, after 6 months the charges will be completely dropped). As a CPA currently in public practice and previously as a bank vice president, I have worked with numerous attorneys in a professional capacity for the past 30 years. First, I found Mr. Miller to be extremely knowledgeable. In addition, he returned phone calls and e-mails quicker than I could have reasonably expected. I am certain that Mr. Miller had many other cases at the time ours was in process; however, he made us feel as though we were his only client. I found Mr. Miller to be very personable and sympathetic to our case. We felt immediately that he was on our side and would do whatever he could to resolve the case. And, he did. We were very pleased with the outcome. Choosing an attorney is obviously a difficult decision. I can honestly say, though, that Mr. Miller would be my personal choice again without hesitation.
